A National Steering committee was formed for development of National Action Plan for viral hepatitis in January 2017. The committee recommended to constitute working groups under various thematic areas related to viral hepatitis including surveillance of viral hepatitis, laboratory diagnosis, treatment, immunization, blood safety, injection safety and infection control, communication (IEC), training & capacity building, water and sanitation and research. The plan was made in consultation with nearly 110 experts, program managers, state officials and community members based on the recommendation of the National Steering committee. After extensive deliberation electronically, the recommendations and detailed plan was concluded through a physical meeting from which the draft strategic plan evolved. The framework was adopted in formalizing the National Viral Hepatitis Control Program which was launched on 28th July 2018 on the occasion of World Hepatitis Day.
